A Simple Way to Diversify Your Small Business Marketing (Video)

TRANSCRIPTION | Hi everyone. I just wanted to take a minute and talk to you about diversifying your marketing. I follow a lot of influencers in the marketing space, those that concentrate on email marketing, inbound marketing, outbound marketing. I like to hear different opinions, from all different sectors of marketing. What I hear a lot of, especially lately is the buzzword, niche or refine.

It’s always great to keep things simple, but putting all of your marketing eggs in one basket, can have devastating results. That’s a strong word, but, you can miss a lot of opportunities if you’re focusing only on one area, especially as a newer entrepreneur or solo entrepreneur where you don’t have the time or the funds to be, throwing a lot of eggs in that basket to get the results. You may be seeing results, which is great, but you don’t know at that point if you have if you could see more results in another area. It’s all about testing, especially when launching a business in the first three years, you want to collect a lot of data and you want to collect it from different sources and you want to document that, and then analyze the results salts over time.

There are some platforms that are going to take longer to see results like search ranking on search engines, and that comes from your SEO, your search engine optimization. So I’ve come up with a bit of, an acronym to help you out. And this is mostly for those, you know, selling products on their website or, service professionals, local or online, you know, solopreneurs, of kind of any kind. There are many different vehicles that you can choose to drive traffic to your website, your, Etsy page, etc. This would just be a general rule. S.E.S, social, email, and search. You want to have a nice blend of those things, but where you can niche down is when it comes to each of these platforms or outlets vehicles. With social, I always recommend if you are smaller and you’re not in the marketing space like me is to concentrate on one platform. A lot of the entrepreneurs I speak to these days that is either Instagram or Facebook. The second is email, always be collecting an email list, but you want to have something, some kind of value for them to sign up for. And that could be, a lead magnet, which even if you make one a quarter, that’s fine. If you want to know more about lead magnets, you can contact me. or it could be content on your site that is regularly updated. That is still the best way to rank. The second S is search and that’s done through SEO (search engine optimization).

You would start by optimizing your site, maybe get a professional to do it, or, or work on it yourself if you’re savvy in that area. You want to start with a foundation just like with any of your social channels or your email list and email newsletters that you’re sending out, you’re creating a foundation and that’s going to take usually around three months to do so don’t expect instant results on any of these, but the combination of the three and how they can work together and how you can share the content across from, your search efforts and a blog on your site or regular content put there and then sharing it on your social. You can share it also on Google My Business as well, which is great for SEO. You’re then reusing that content that you created for one platform, which is your website and you’re sharing it on your social and your email.

You can see that they can all work together in your content calendar and your content strategy. Take time to build a program that works with you, lay it out into a calendar, and then, depending on how much time you have to spend schedule each area. If you’re a solopreneur and you’re doing this on the side, maybe one blog post a week, maybe an email that corresponds with that, that contains additional value, or maybe older posts on your site, promotions, or maybe what’s going on in your neighborhood. Then with social, if you really want to develop a following, you need to share daily. I would suggest, three posts a day, you can split those into, educational, entertainment, and then maybe personal. Just be sure it’s put it in your content calendar and diversify your marketing across those three things. S.E.S (social email, and search).
